BeneficiariesEach of the following beneficiaries will receive 20% of the proceeds from Taste of the Nation. A Loving SpoonfulThis program serves nutritious meals in Vancouver to home-bound people with AIDS. This service is free of charge and free of prejudice. Increasingly, they are serving people living in unsafe hotels, the homeless and street-engaged persons living with HIV/AIDS. www.alovingspoonful.org Greater Vancouver Food BankThe Greater Vancouver Food Bank began 18 years ago when a small number of organizations, church groups, and other concerned citizens responded to a growing hunger problem in the community. At the time, Food Bank assisted approximately 200 people. Today, the Food Bank provides direct assistance to over 9,000 people on a weekly basis. Thousands more are being helped with food provided to 133 local agencies, such as meal programs, soup kitches, and missions. The areas served are Vancouver, Burnaby, New Westminster, and the North Shore. www.foodbank.bc.ca Kiwassa Neighbourhood House Breakfast ProgramKiwassa operates 5 days a week throughout the year on a pay-what-you-can basis, serving approximately 1,000 meals per month. Taste Of The Nation will fund food for overhead expenses. www.kiwassa.bc.ca The Britannia Community Services Centre Preschool and Out of School Childcare Food ProgramsBritannia provides healthy and diverse food to help children develop good eating habits and life skills. Out Of School encourages youth participation in shopping and food preparation. These programs serve the inner city area of Grandview Woodlands and Strathcona. Taste Of The Nation will fund the food component of both programs. Oxfam CanadaOxfam was founded 25 years ago to support disadvantaged people in less industrialzed countries as they struggle for survival, progress and human rights. This years international recipient involves various Oxfam projects around the globe. In Haiti, Taste Of The Nation will fund farmer access to seeds, tools, and inputs for agricultural production. In El Salvador, the event will promote the use of bio-pesticides. In Vietnam, the event will support three projects for small business development. www.oxfam.ca |
