Vancouver, BC, Canada Ð Share Our StrengthÕs 12th Annual TASTE OF THE
NATION, presented
by American Express, will be hosted by the newly renovated Hyatt Regency in downtown Vancouver on Thursday,
May 23, 2002.
TASTE OF THE NATION is VancouverÕs
premier fundraising food and beverage tasting event featuring sixty of
VancouverÕs finest restaurants and beverage companies setting out their
tastiest samples for you to enjoy.
Joining over 100 other participating
cities TASTE OF THE NATION is VancouverÕs largest culinary fundraising event to
fight hunger and poverty in North America. In Vancouver, Taste
of the Nation has raised more than $580,000 in the past ten years and
over $2 million Canada wide.
Julia Watt, Co-chair, is pleased to be working
with the Hyatt Regency, which has recently undergone a $12 million
renovation. ÒThe Hyatt will look
fabulous,Ó says Ms. Watt. ÒHosting Taste of the Nation at this hotel reflects
the quality of the event. The
Hyatt is also thrilled to be hosting such a worthwhile event.Ó
Will Rafuse, a Vancouver artist well known for
his whimsical and colourful oil paintings of chefs, restaurants and servers, will
be donating an original piece for use in promotional materials and for sale at
the silent auction. ÒThe
silent auction has always been very successful, but with Will RafuseÕs original
piece on the block, I expect the bids to surpass last year substantially,Ó says

This is the 12th
anniversary of this extremely popular food and beverage charity
fund-raiser. All ticket proceeds
from the Vancouver event are donated to charities that provide programs to
fight hunger. Eighty percent of
these proceeds go to Lower Mainland charity organizations and the remaining
twenty percent is donated to Oxfam International.
